Myatt Snider was impressive last weekend at Franciacorta, Italy in the third race of the 2019 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season. The 24-year-old American driver, at the wheel of the #48 Racing Engineering Ford Mustang, put up a strong performance in his very first outing at the twisty 2,5-kilometer Italian track and grabbed his first ever NWES podium.
Snider started from fifth on the grid and battled his way up to second in dramatic fashion. The 2018 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Rookie of the Year overtook several cars to finish second in the 24-lap race. In the Valencia season opener, Snider was involved in a last lap crash while trying to grab the lead from Andre Castro. One month later in Italy he finally stepped on the podium.
"In the beginning I didn’t have the handling in the car, but in the end it really came to me," said Snider. "The Ford Performance Mustang was great thanks to the good work of the Racing Engineering team. It was a lot of fun to bring some American flavor in here. I’m pretty happy with today."
Snider’s impressive three-wide pass on veteran Bert Longin and points leader Giorgio Maggi was the highlight of the race.
"I did a crazy threewide pass and got second from that. I’m pretty happy about that. Giorgio Maggi put a lot of pressure on me. There were places he was stronger than me and there were places where I was stronger. It was good old fashioned racing and I really like that."
Snider will be back in action at the famous NASCAR American Speedfest at Brands Hatch on 1-2 June. All races will be streamed live at Fanschoice.tv, the Euro NASCAR Facebook page and YouTube channel, Motorsport.tv and a vast network of websites and social media pages from around the world.
