First Challenger Trophy win for Ellen Lohr

Last weekend at Franciacorta Ellen Lohr became the first woman to win the Challenger Trophy classification. After crashing out of Round 2 in Valencia, the German motorsport icon came to Italy poised to rebound in the second event of the season and delivered. Lohr scored the first win for a woman in the Challenger Trophy in the ELITE 1 Round 4 on Sunday.

Lohr started 25th and gained eleven positions in the 29-lap race. Her 14th place under the checkered flag granted her the first win in the Challenger Trophy in a close battle with Mauro Trione and Dario Caso.

“The 14th place is a very nice result,” said Lohr. “I was a little bit lucky because other drivers had to retire but it was a nice reward for fighting hard in this race. I’m very happy with the result and with this weekend, especially after a hard crash in my return behind the wheel in Spain. Battles like those we had this weekends are exactly the reason why I chose Euro NASCAR for my racing comeback.”

“It was a great weekend for the whole Dexwet-df1 Racing team,” continued the Mönchengladbach-native. “Lasse Sorensen already grabbed a win and another podium in the ELITE 2 Division. The Challenger Trophy is not the overall classification but it’s always nice to be on the top of the podium. I really want to win this Trophy in 2019.”

Ellen Lohr will be back on the track on June 1-2 at Brands Hatch, a track she have not raced at in the last 20 years. Qualifying and all races of the NASCAR GP UK will be streamed live on Fanschoice.tv, the Euro NASCAR YouTube and Facebook channel, Motorsport.tv and a vast network of websites and social media pages from around the world.
