Fourth in points in 2019 in the regularity based Club Challenge, Alessio Bacci will take the next step in his NASCAR career by joining the EuroNASCAR 2 championship. The Italian, whose resume features experience in karting and Formula Renault will drive the #2 Alex Caffi Motorsports car.
The 17-year-old Marina di Pietrasanta native built himself a good knowledge of Valencia, Hockenheim and Zolder thanks to his Club Challenge participation. The challenge provides the best way for young and inexperienced drivers to start a NASCAR career in Europe and learn how to tame the V8 beasts of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series.
"My goal is to learn all about this incredible car and to handle the tight competition in a door-to-door race," he said. "I want to improve my skills race by race. I know it’s going to be a tough challenge but I am totally motivated to get the best out of myself. In the Club Challenge it was the driver against the time but in EuroNASCAR 2 it will be driver against driver. Making this shift will be the toughest challenge for me. I’m ready to soak in the adrenaline-filled pure racing experience."
The 5.7 liter 400 hp V8 race cars without any electronic aid impressed plenty of professional drivers from around the world and Bacci too fell in love with the unique character of the EuroNASCAR car: "Power, torque, sensibility, no electronic aids and this is just the beginning. It’s real racing with no mistakes allowed, wild feelings while driving a 400 horsepower beast. You can only understand the ‘art’ behind a EuroNASCAR car when you see and feel it live."
The NWES season opener will take place on June 6-7 in Brands Hatch due to the postponement of the Valencia rounds to the end of the 2020 schedule and it will mark Bacci’s first time in the middle of the EuroNASCAR field.
