Champion Interview: Alon Day on his third NWES title, 2020 and a unique journey

With his third NASCAR Whelen Euro Series title at the end of a four-win season, Alon Day became the most successful driver in EuroNASCAR history. To rewrite the history book, the Israeli joined Anthony Kumpen’s PK Carsport team to drive the #24 Monster Energy Chevrolet Camaro.

With the season heavily affected by the worldwide pandemic, Day moved to Belgium and spent months working with Kumpen, crew chief Frank Steukers, teammate Stienes Longin and the PK Carsport organization to achieve the goal of becoming a three-time champion.

After earning a second and a fourth place in Vallelunga to open the season, the Ashdod native grabbed the third place on the podium in Round 3 at Zolder before finding his way to Victory Lane in Round 4 on Sunday, also moving to the top of the points standings. At Grobnik in November, Day started from ninth on the grid in Round 5 and fought his way back up to fifth. The next day, he tied Ander Vilarino’s all-time record with career win #22. Two wins in four races at Valencia granted Day his third NWES championship and the top spot in the list of the most winningest drivers in EuroNASCAR history.

Day closed the season with 4 wins, 9 top-5s, 10 top-10s and 5 pole positions, edging 2019 EuroNASCAR 2 champion Lasse Soerensen by 20 points in the final points standings. On the podium at Valencia, the 29-year-old raised the new exclusive NWES trophy produced by Tijey.
