9 top-10s out of 10 races: Alessandro Brigatti impresses in sophomore NWES season

Alessandro Brigatti completed his second NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season in 2020 and impressed with his consistency over the 10 EuroNASCAR 2 rounds. The Italian ended up inside the top-10 nine times and finished in a solid third place in the overall classification. Driving for FEED Vict Racing, the Lissone native made the next step of his promising NWES career and became a real title contender over the course of the 2020 season.

In his rookie campaign in 2019, Brigatti already showed great potential with two podium finishes at the Hockenheimring in Germany and at Circuit Zolder in Belgium. The 19-year-old raised his game in 2020 by visiting the overall podium on a regular basis. He started the season with 3 consecutive podiums at Autodromo di Vallelunga and Circuit Zolder. He then grabbed the fourth top-3 at Circuit Ricardo Tormo during the Super Speedweek in Valencia, Spain. One thing is still missing: a race win.

“It was for sure a very solid season for me as I learnt a lot about the car and improved my driving skills throughout my second EuroNASCAR season,” said Brigatti. “Before I joined the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, I only did karting, so the learning curve is still steep. But I’m not 100 percent happy about the result in the end, as I was fighting for the title after the races in Vallelunga and Zolder. It wanted to win the title, but technical issues hampered us in Grobnik and Valencia.”

Brigatti is hungry for more and is already working on his plans for the 2021 NWES season: “I’m not sure if I will return to EuroNASCAR 2. We will work on the budget and then the team will decide if I will race in EuroNASCAR 2 again or make the step up to EuroNASCAR PRO. I finished second three times in the 2020 season and all I want is a race win.”

One of his highlights in the 2020 campaign was to work with former Formula One Champion Jacques Villeneuve at FEED Vict Racing: “This year was very special and it was great to talk to Jacques and learn from a legend like him. This was probably the best thing in the 2020 season.”

Being able to race in a tough year like 2020 was not something given. That’s why Brigatti is thankful for the opportunity to continue his racing career. He said: “With COVID-19 every event was at risk to be cancelled in the last minutes but NWES president Jerome Galpin and his team did an amazing job to reschedule the calendar and offer us a great championship. The new calendar was not perfect for me and my title ambitions but it was important to be able to race and gain important track time.”

Brigatti, who traveled to all events in a camper together with his father, is sure one of the promising talents in the ranks of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and a driver to keep an eye on in the 2021 season. His consistency brought him a third place in the EuroNASCAR 2 Championship and if he’s able to grab his first win, he will surely be able to battle for the title very soon.
