Only 11 points separate EuroNASCAR 2 championship leader Martin Doubek and Vladimiros Tziortzis after the 2021 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season opener at Circuit Ricardo Tormo. Tziortzis, who’s piloting the #1 Academy Motorsport / Alex Caffi Motorsport Ford Mustang, impressed with two podium finishes at Valencia underlined his title ambitions in the second NWES season of his career.
The first ever Cypriot to join EuroNASCAR ended up fourth in his 2020 EuroNASCAR 2 debut season and second in the Rookie Trophy. In 2021, the 24-year-old wants to take the next step and fight for the big championship trophy in the series dedicated to young talents and gentlemen drivers. The season opener in Spain definitely went in the right direction.
Tziortzis was strong in Qualifying: he went only 0.021 seconds from his first ever NWES Pole Position behind Hendrik Motorsport’s Doubek, who not only took the pole but also won both races during the weekend. Tziortzis put a lot of pressure on the Czech in the first race and finished second, while in EuroNASCAR 2 Round 2 he was third under the checkered flag after an intense battle with Doubek’s teammate Tobias Dauenhauer.
“I spent a lot of time during the winter break watching my onboards from last year in Valencia,” explained the 24-year-old from Nicosia. “As a result, I found some areas where I was missing some time, and as soon as I entered the practice sessions I tried to improve. I was immediately faster than last year. I’m feeling way more comfortable in the car!”
“My goal this year is to score as many podiums as I can, also win races and grab the EuroNASCAR 2 championship title. As all teams and drivers there are some points we are working on to improve and do better each round and I think we are on a good way. The whole team is working very hard on all cars and the main goal is to maximize the performance in each round. That’s why it’s so important to have a strong team around me as a race car driver.”
“I’m really looking forward to the next challenges in the 2021 season as all tracks suit my driving style. I like technical tracks like Grobnik, Zolder and Vallelunga. Brands Hatch and Most are new to me so I’m already spending some time watching videos and analyzing data,” concluded Tziortzis. “I’m sure I will fall in love with those tracks as both look very technical, too. After this strong season opener with two podium finishes I want to continue to finish inside the top-3 and grab race wins. My team and I are determined to fulfill our main goal of winning the title.”
The next race will take place on July 3-4 in Brands Hatch, UK. All races will be broadcasted live on EuroNASCAR’s social media profiles – YouTube, Facebook, Twitch – and Motorsport.tv.
