Thomas Krasonis solid in EuroNASCAR return in Valencia

After getting his first taste of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series in 2019, Thomas Krasonis made his EuroNASCAR 2 comeback during the 2021 season opener at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain. The Greek took the wheel of the #2 Academy Motorsport / Alex Caffi Motorsport EuroNASCAR FJ and scored a solid seventh place in the first round of the season. The 19-year-old is now hungry for more.

Krasonis joined the NWES in 2019 with Alex Caffi Motorsport in the EuroNASCAR 2 Championship. He completed ten races over the course of the season with a sixth place as his best result which came at Brands Hatch – the next stop of the 2021 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season. The recent seventh place in Valencia was the second top-10 result of his career and that’s why the Greek aims to make the next step very soon.

“It was stressful at the beginning because if a race car driver is absent from the track for one year it’s quite weird to get back into racing pace with minimal practice,” said Krasonis about his solid comeback. “As soon as I got to the racetrack it immediately felt like home. The atmosphere, the team, everything combined just eliminated the stress and allowed me to enjoy the first race weekend of the season to the fullest.”

“Usually, during the first race of the season every driver is trying to play it safe in order to start gathering points,” the Greek explained. “I didn’t have this in mind though. I just wanted to see where I stand more or less on the very competitive EuroNASCAR 2 grid. So I pushed from the beginning to get the best result possible in the first race. I’m satisfied with the seventh place I collected in the first race. My goal is now to work from that foundation and by the end of the season to try climbing the remaining positions to the top.”

Krasonis also has short and long term goals for his EuroNASCAR career: “To finish the EuroNASCAR 2 Championship inside the top-5 is my main goal for now. I want to race and enjoy the competition and I think the results will come at some point. The long term goal is to get the maximum out of this season and prepare to fight for the championship trophy from the beginning next season.”

The NASCAR GP UK takes place on July 3-4 on the Indy Circuit of the Brands Hatch race track close to London. Krasonis, who scored his best NWES race result in Great Britain so far, travels highly motivated to Fawkham, Longfield, to confirm the solid pace he had in Valencia. Qualifying and all races will be broadcasted live on EuroNASCAR’s social media platforms – YouTube, Facebook, Twitch – and Motorsport.tv.
