All 3 Trophy wins of the 2021 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season in EuroNASCAR 2 went to drivers from Italy. Alberto Panebianco was the best newcomer on the grid and therefore won the Rookie Trophy. Massimiliano “Max” Lanza topped the standings in the Legend Trophy for drivers aged 40 and more, while Arianna Casoli won the battle for the Lady Trophy against Alina Loibnegger. The 3 drivers got their trophies at the end of the EuroNASCAR 2 Finals at Autodromo di Vallelunga, Italy.
Legend Trophy: Max Lanza
Lanza entered the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series in 2018 and already drove in both Championships – EuroNASCAR PRO and EuroNASCAR 2. In 2021, the Italian joined CAAL Racing to share the car with three-time NWES Champion Alon Day – a crucial ingredient for Lanza’s success as Day helped him to find the best possible setup for the #88 Chevrolet Camaro. Lanza ended up ninth in the overall classification and beat Marko Stipp Motorsport’s Yevgen Sokolovskiy and Miguel Gomes in the battle for the Legend Trophy – the special classification for drivers aged 40 and more. Over the course of the season, the 41-year-old from Rome won the Legend classification 5 times.
Rookie Trophy: Alberto Panebianco
Panebianco made his NWES in 2021 with Not Only Motorsport, a racing outfit from Italy that made its first EuroNASCAR start in 2020. The 25-year-old from Italy finished tenth in the overall standings and thus topped the special classification for newcomers in the official European NASCAR Series. The race car driver from Venaria Reale, who’s driving the #89 Chevrolet Camaro, won the Rookie Trophy classification 4 times in the 2021 NWES season and beat DF1 Racing’s Leevi Lintukanto by 7 points. Gomes from Marko Stipp Motorsport ended up third.
Lady Trophy: Arianna Casoli
By competing in her first EuroNASCAR 2 race in 2016, Casoli belongs to the most experienced veterans in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. The race car driver from Reggio Emilia in Italy faced NWES rookie Alina Loibnegger from Austria in the battle for the Lady Trophy. In the end, Casoli beat her five times over the course of the 2021 EuroNASCAR 2 season and grabbed the trophy 21 points ahead of the Solaris Motorsport driver. Casoli, who’s competing for CAAL Racing, is the first ever driver to celebrate a third Lady Trophy in NWES history.
