The 2022 season will mark the third year in a row that Marko Stipp Motorsport and Yevgen Sokolovskiy join forces. As in previous seasons, the 43-year-old will pull double duties piloting the #48 Marko Stipp Motorsport Camaro in the EuroNASCAR PRO and EuroNASCAR 2 championships.
Coming off a strong sophomore year in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series in which he finished 12th and 14th overall in the points standings and took 2nd and 3rd place in the Legend and Challenger trophies, Sokolovskiy has a clear target for the new season: “Last year it was very close in the trophies, I came out second and third. This year I want to win the Legend Trophy and the Challenger Trophy! Overall, my goal is to fight for the top 5 in EuroNASCAR 2 and the top 10 in EuroNASCAR PRO.”
There is no question for the Dusseldorf-based Ukrainian that it is possible to achieve the goal with Marko Stipp Motorsport. “We have made very good progress over the last two years together with the team and I see the further potential. That’s why I believe we will continue to improve in the new season.”
Due to the also renewed cooperation with Grandprix Originals, the #48 will remain in its fan-favourite blue and orange Gulf design. “I am very pleased to have Grandprix Originals further involved. We have some merchandising projects together in the new season. Having the historic design of the car with the Gulf colours is a really great and important thing for our fans.”
The contract extension and consistency within the team will be significant factors according to team owner Marko Stipp: ”We are all delighted to keep Yevgen with us for the new season. The rewards of our continuous partnership could already be noticed in our second year together. Yevgen had a lot more confidence and we could keep pushing our performance further and further. In 2022, I’m sure we will keep progressing and we will be fighting for the win in the Challenger Trophy and the Legend Trophy.”
The 2022 EuroNASCAR championship season will kick off in Hockenheim (Germany) on April 9-10 and span further races in Valencia (Spain), Brands Hatch (UK), Most (Czech Republic), Zolder (Belgium) and Grobnik (Croatia).
