Academy Motorsport in partnership with Alex Caffi Motorsport is already looking ahead to 2022. After confirming its commitment to the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, the joint venture announced a new technical partnership with Petri Corse.
The choice to partner with Petri Corse, a professional Tuscan team already involved in international GT racing and in the Italian rally series, represents the first step in preparation for the new EuroNASCAR season.
For Academy Motorsport/Alex Caffi Motorsport, 2021 ended with a double win with Jacques Villeneuve on the Italian circuit of Vallelunga, a home win for the newly born team in its debut season in the Nascar Whelen Euro Series.
ACADEMY MOTORSPORT / ALEX CAFFI MOTORSPORT TEAM PROFILE
Petri Corse boasts wins in major international championships and with the most prestigious car brands. The Italian team, led by Simone Petri, has a vast experience developed directly on the race track.
Federico Monti said: “Alex Caffi is our coordinator and now we have the extra experience and knowledge provided by Simone Petri. This new partnership will guarantee the kind of growth the team now needs after a season of exciting training. We immediately appreciated the incredible enthusiasm shown by Petri Corse towards the new plan, and after this we are thinking of increasing our commitment to the series.”
Alex Caffi underlined: “The team has significantly grown during this first year, Jacque’s two Italian successes are the best confirmation of this. Obviously growth must be matched with an adequate team and the choice of Petri Corse will add an extra value and the best support to implement our projects.”
“New adventures always offer exciting motivations and we are absolutely sure that this will be the case with the debut in the Nascar Whelen Euro Series,” said Simone Petri, Petri Corse’s Team Owner. “It is a brand new series for us but to be alongside a young team that has already achieved great results and features excellent drivers is certainly exciting, so we are sure that everything will be smoother. We are aware of the hard work ahead of us, but we will put our experience at the service of the team and we will draw on the knowledge of Academy Motorsport and Alex Caffi Motorsport”.
In the coming weeks Academy Motorsport/Alex Caffi Motorsport will formalize the name of the drivers and the number of cars that will be involved in the 2022 season, together with a testing calendar.
