At the end of a thrilling NASCAR GP UK, Alberto Naska and Liam Hezemans Brands Hatch with some shiny hardware to prove the two rookies were the class of the field. In the ninth edition of the American SpeedFest, the Italian and the Dutchman split the wins in EuroNASCAR 2 and occupied the top two steps of the podium, as well as the general classification and the Rookie Trophy ranks. The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series newcomers are only separated by eleven points.
Having a rookie winning the championship happened only once in the history of EuroNASCAR 2: Lasse Soerensen was the first driver to grab the double-crown back in 2019 with DF1 Racing. With Naska and Hezemans, there are two potential drivers to follow in the footsteps of the Dane.
Naska already scored his maiden EuroNASCAR 2 win in the season opener in Valencia, Spain. The CAAL Racing driver won again at Brands Hatch after beating Vladimiros Tziortzis to the line and sits on top of the classification.
Hezemans put his name on the winners list on Sunday June 12 at Brands Hatch. The Dutchman made two amazing moves in Overtime to overtake first Tziortzis and then Naska. The younger brother of reigning EuroNASCAR PRO Champion Loris Hezemans sped to his maiden overall victory and climbed to second both in the championship and in the Rookie Trophy.
Paul Jouffreau closes the Rookie Trophy top-3 in seventh overall after an eventful American SpeedFest. In front of about 50,000 fans, the Frenchman finished ninth on Sunday. On Saturday, the Speedhouse driver suffered from an early crash that forced him to retire.
The fourth rookie in the EuroNASCAR 2 top-10 is Patrick Schober from Austria. The Double V Racing driver collected his maiden top-10 finish on Sunday.
Luli Del Castello follows in 14th overall and fifth in the Rookie Trophy ranks. The Italian, driving for CAAL Racing, posted two top-20 finishes at Brands Hatch. Aliyyah Koloc is 19th after four races in 2022. The Buggyra driver is only one point ahead of Kasparas Vingilis. Tuomas Pontinen made his NWES debut at Brands Hatch Circuit and immediately found his way to the podium: On Sunday he finished seventh overall and third among the EuroNASCAR 2 newcomers.
Teo Calvet, who only raced at Valencia, is 25th overall followed by Claudio Cappelli. The latter stepped on the Rookie Trophy podium for the first time on Sunday, when he crossed the finish line in fifth place in what was his maiden top-5 result in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. He’s tied in points with Team Bleekemolen newcomer Jonne Koikkalainen. The Finn is followed by Yannick Panagiotis and Andrea Tronconi. Rookies Christoph Lenz and Alfredo De Matteo are set to kick start their campaign at Vallelunga.
The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series will be back in action on July 9-10 at the Autodromo di Vallelunga in Italy. Qualifying and all races will be broadcast live on EuroNASCAR.com, the NWES YouTube channel, Motorsport.tv and plenty of TV services from around the world.
