Consistency is fundamental in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series: Alexander Graff is the perfect example to show that scoring points on a regular basis is the way to contend for the title in EuroNASCAR PRO. The Swede sits in second after Rounds 7 & 8 at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic, only 16 points behind the leader Alon Day. With one win and four podiums on his tally, the driver of the #64 Speedhouse Chevrolet Camaro aims for the big trophy in the 2022 NWES season.
“Almost” was the word that described Graff’s race weekend at Autodrom Most the best. The Speedhouse driver finished second in both EuroNASCAR PRO, missing out on the win two times in a row with a margin under one second in each race. But instead of being frustrated, the race car driver from Uppsala is happy with the result as he has the bigger picture in mind. Consistency is key and could play a major role in this year’s title battle.
“I was pushing hard to get Sebastiaan [Bleekemolen] and Alon in the races,” said Graff. “There’s no point in being here if I don’t put pressure on them in the races. Alon is ahead of me in the championship so I had to try to do anything. In the end it still ended up good for me with a second place, so everything’s fine.” Graff broke the ice earlier this season with his maiden NASCAR win at Brands Hatch and his consistency may put him in a promising position when the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series visits Grobnik for its Finals at the end of October.
The regular season finale takes place on October 8-9 at Circuit Zolder. The NASCAR GP Belgium will surely deliver thrilling races and further raise the tension among the contenders. After Zolder, each driver will drop the two worst results from the regular season and therefore Graff will do all he can to score his second win of the season and close the gap on Day, who’s chasing what could be a record-breaking fourth NWES title.
Without the points drop applied, Day is only 16 points ahead of Graff, while Junior Trophy leader Giorgio Maggi follows in third with a gap of 38 points from the championship leader. Reigning EuroNASCAR 2 Champion Martin Doubek and Nicolo Rocca close the top-5. With the dropped results included, Day would keep the lead ahead of Graff, followed by Maggi, Rocca and Doubek. The outcome of the regular season finale in Zolder will be crucial entering the Finals in Croatia.
With four more EuroNASCAR PRO races to go and double points to be awarded at Automotodrom Grobnik, the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series heads into its most exciting part of the season.
