Two very fast drivers are battling for the Lady Trophy in the 2022 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season. Luli Del Castello and Aliyyah Koloc impressed with strong results in the EuroNASCAR 2 Championship so far and both hope to be on the top step of the podium when the season culminates at Automotodrom Grobnik on October 29-30. Koloc scored two Lady Trophy wins at her home track – the 4.2 kilometer long Autodrom Most – and closed the gap on the Italian in the overall standings to six points.
For Koloc it was her fourth Lady Trophy win on Sunday when the Buggyra ZM Racing driver crossed the finish line in twelfth overall. She bested CAAL Racing’s Del Castello in 14th and reigning Lady Trophy Champion Arianna Casoli, who took third place in 16th overall. Alina Loibnegger lost ground in the last race at Autodrom Most due to technical issues on her Racingfuel Motorsport Chevrolet Camaro. On Saturday, Koloc finished eighth ahead of Loibnegger in tenth and Casoli in 16th. Del Castello was involved in a crash and therefore ended up 19th.
“It was a chaotic but successful weekend,” said Koloc after her home race in the Czech Republic. “I’m very happy about my top-10 result and Lady Trophy win on Saturday. On Sunday, I topped the Lady Trophy again despite two safety car periods and a small contact with another car. It was a good result and I’m already looking forward to the next races at Circuit Zolder.”
Del Castello summed up her race weekend at Most: “The second race at Autodrom Most was a good one. Despite having a spin in the opening stages, I managed to gain a lot of positions and finish second in the Lady Trophy. Saturday just went bad for me, it was a bad day. Overall I’m happy because I scored a lot of points for the Lady Trophy championship on Sunday. I hope we are able to improve our performance at Circuit Zolder.”
The next race will be the regular season finale at Circuit Zolder, a significant point in the 2022 NWES season as the drivers will drop their two worst results afterwards. This may be the chance for Del Castello and Koloc to gain important points ahead of the double-point EuroNASCAR Finals in Croatia. Both drivers are set to fight for the lead in the Lady Trophy standings in the forests of Limburg, at a track that has been on the NWES schedule since 2015. Both drivers boast four Lady Trophy wins each so far and they will surely deliver a tight battle for the title in Belgium and Croatia.
Loibnegger is third in the Lady Trophy standings, 37 points down to Del Castello in the lead. The Austrian still has plenty of chances to join the championship battle with two strong results at Circuit Zolder and with double points on the line at Grobnik, a perfect weekend in Croatia will be crucial to win the title. Speedhouse’s Casoli follows in fourth only eight points behind Loibnegger in the overall EuroNASCAR 2 standings. With four EuroNASCAR 2 races left on the schedule, the fans will for sure see a tremendous battle for the 2022 Lady Trophy title.
