2022 has been a breakthrough season for Giorgio Maggi in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series . The Swiss is yet to get his maiden EuroNASCAR PRO win but thanks to his outstanding consistency, he clearly belongs to the title contenders. After the regular season finale, the Race Art Technology driver sits in fifth place in the overall standings, just 26 points shy of Alon Day in first position. Maggi also dominates the Junior Trophy standings for drivers aged 25 and more, which he leads over Liam Hezemans by 77 points.
With four podiums in the 2022 NWES season, three of which in a row, the Swiss made an important step to sustain his title ambitions but he is still seeking his way to visit the Victory Lane in Europe’s premier NASCAR Championship. “I would sign the deal if I would get the title without a win for sure, but still I’m looking to score my first win in EuroNASCAR PRO”, said Maggi. “We made the right tweaks over the past month and got the car into the right direction after we had some issues at the beginning of the year.”
With five top-5 and seven top-10 results, Maggi collected important points for the championship and six wins in the Junior Trophy classification prove that the Swiss is one of the most talented drivers in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. With a maximum of 176 points on the line at the EuroNASCAR Finals in Grobnik, Maggi has to defend his comfortable lead in the Junior Trophy and try to go for the big beautiful Tijey Trophy that will be given to the EuroNASCAR PRO Champion after two thrilling double-point races.
Maggi has been part of the series since 2019. The Swiss was runner-up in EuroNASCAR 2 in his rookie season and moved up to EuroNASCAR PRO just one year later. Since then, the Race Art Technology driver constantly improved his skills in a EuroNASCAR race car with 400 hp V8 power and no electronic aids. Maggi joined Race Art Technology in 2022 to form an all-Swiss team and have a shot at the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series title.
The NASCAR GP Croatia will take place on October 29-30 at Automotodrom Grobnik. Qualifying and all four title deciding races will be broadcast live on EuroNASCAR’s YouTube channel, Motorsport.tv and several TV services from around the world.
