V8 power, a simple but effective and durable mechanical base, no driving aids, the purest character and the most fun in all of racing: this is the ultimate drivers’ race car that’s one key reason for the success of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. The NWES car brings out the best drivers, delivers plenty of power and adapts to all kinds of pilots, from world champions to absolute beginners, producing some of the best racing in Europe.
In this part of Discover EuroNASCAR, we take a closer look at the V8 beasts that conquered the European motorsport industry. The EuroNASCAR fully-spec car is NASCAR and FIA-homologated and offers top safety features. The car weighs 1,225 kilograms, is 5,080 millimeters long, 1,950 millimeters wide and has a wheelbase of 2,740 millimeters. Four different brands are available to the competitors: Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, Toyota Camry and the OEM-neutral EuroNASCAR FJ.
The spec-chassis is made of steel tubes and the engine is a 400-horsepower 5.7 liter V8 spec one – it is common to all cars, independently from the bodywork brand – that provides the typically mean and aggressive NASCAR sound. The rear wheel drive drivetrain makes it a pleasure to drive the car and a challenge to get the best performance out of it on the track. The top speed is 245 kilometers per hour.
No electronic driving aid is allowed on the car. Only a limited set of sensors is allowed to fit a data logging system which collects important information for the team that can be read after a run.
The driver and the set-up are what makes the difference in EuroNASCAR. The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series car offers a wide variety of adjustments to tailor the driving experience around the driver. The gearbox is a 4-speed manual H-pattern item, with a sequential command available as an option. The brake system consists of 4 pot monoblock calipers and 330 millimeters vented discs.
The tires are provided by Hoosier Racing Tires, the official tire supplier of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. The specification is: Hoosier 330/700 R15. The brand provides the series with slicks and rain tires as well. Those tires are mounted on 10,5 x 15’’ steel wheels. In dry conditions, each driver has to manage one set of Hoosier tires per weekend from the beginning of Qualifying to the end of the second race.
Over the years, several world class drivers expressed their appreciation for the EuroNASCAR car, including F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve and NASCAR Cup Series Champion Bobby Labonte who both competed in the championship. The NWES cars were also selected multiple times for the Race Of Champions and driven by champions the caliber of Kyle and Kurt Busch, Juan Pablo Montoya, Alexander Rossi, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, David Coulthard, Tom Kristensen and Petter Solberg. All of them loved the experience and praised the character of EuroNASCAR’s pure racing beasts.
In EuroNASCAR it’s all about parity. Putting the drivers and the team’s work in focus is the biggest goal the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series aims at in their technical regulations. Every team gets the same cars, the same parts and have the same chances of winning races in one of Europe’s best touring car series. To make sure every team follows the rules, the major components are sealed and thoroughly inspected at the race track.
