Claudio Cappelli is one of the leading contenders in EuroNASCAR 2 for the 2024 season – The Italian expressed his desire to try out NASCAR in the United States
Claudio Cappelli is one of the most exciting personalities in the 2024 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season. The Italian with the remarkable beard is an aficionado of V8 engines and found EuroNASCAR to be the right series for him to compete thanks to its Pure Racing action. Having made his full season debut in 2022 following a prior appearance in 2019, the Robecco d’Oglio native is competing in his third EuroNASCAR 2 campaign and found himself with plenty of work to do when the season resumes after the summer break.
While Cappelli’s main focus is to continue his challenge for the EuroNASCAR 2 championship and Legend Trophy overall victory, as a lover of anything V8, Cappelli understandably declared his interest in competing on the other side of the Atlantic. “Of course the NASCAR Cup Series would be great, but all the NASCAR series are very attractive for me, from the Xfinity Series to the Truck Series! But also other series with powerful V8 engines like Trans Am or the Supercars in Australia. So everything that needs to be driven carefully if you want to survive!” chimed the Italian in an Instagram Q&A.
Cappelli started his season strongly with a podium finish in Spain, his first race with his new team Academy / Alex Caffi Motorsport. However, he experienced a big setback at his home race in Italy. A big crash in EuroNASCAR 2 Round 3 eliminated the 49 year-old driver for Round 4 as well, but he never gave up and fought back with a career-best second place finish next time up in the UK. He followed that with another second place finish in the special event in the Netherlands, the Italian’s first ever race in an oval.
He currently sits twelfth in the overall standings with an 80 point deficit from Martin Doubek, but there’s no doubt that Cappelli has the speed to contend for race wins. He plans to stay out of trouble in the first round after the summer break at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic, a track the Italian likes to race on. “I hope to stay out of all the troubles that unfortunately harmed my first part of the season,” said Cappelli, who outside racing works in the roofing industry. “After the summer break we will race at tracks that I like, even if Most is Martin’s home race. I hope to have the speed to compete at the front and do my best.”
The Italian will be ready to punch when the Pure Racing EuroNASCAR cars come back to life in the NASCAR GP Czech Republic, scheduled for August 31 and September 1. With Cappelli showcasing tremendous speed at Autodrom Most in the 2023 edition, he will be one of the drivers to watch in EuroNASCAR’s fifth visit to the fantastic 4.212 kilometer circuit. Be sure to tune in to EuroNASCAR’s YouTube channel and plenty of TV stations from all around the world where all qualifying and races will be broadcast live on.
