Tobias Dauenhauer is one of the top drivers who participated in EuroNASCAR’s Drivers Recruitment Program – The German is now a title contender
Tobias Dauenhauer has been part of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series paddock since 2020, and the German found his way into the championship by taking part in the Drivers Recruitment Program. The Bremotion driver joined the series in the first pandemic year after trying out the pure EuroNASCAR car without any electronic support and then decided to make the move from GT racing. Since then, the 26-year-old has worked his way up to EuroNASCAR PRO and into title contention.
“The Drivers Recruitment Program was the best way for me to try out a EuroNASCAR car, explore the series and meet all the important people who run the championship,” said the German. “I raced GT cars before I came to EuroNASCAR. I went to France to get to know the car thanks to Jerome Galpin [EuroNASCAR president and CEO]. I did my best and got a scholarship from the series for my first season. The series helped me with my entry fee.”
This was the beginning of Dauenhauer’s EuroNASCAR career, as the DRP facilitated the German in joining the series after he stood out during the test days at Fontenay Le Comte. “It helped me get into the series financially,” the 26-year-old explained. “It also helped me to get up to speed faster because I was able to test the car. Everything was new to me, so I had to adapt to the car and the whole system. Everything was different compared to GT racing, so it was a lot of work.”
But the hard work paid off: Dauenhauer finished second overall in his first EuroNASCAR 2 season, just six points behind championship winner Vittorio Ghirelli. In 2021, he missed out on the EuroNASCAR 2 title to Martin Doubek by just 17 points. In two years, Dauenhauer scored a total of eight EuroNASCAR 2 race wins before moving up to EuroNASCAR PRO in 2022, when the German raced just one weekend.
Dauenhauer made his full-time comeback with Bremotion in the 2023 season and immediately led the new German team to Victory Lane. Dauenhauer became the first German ever to win a EuroNASCAR PRO race, in front of his home crowd at Oschersleben. He followed that up with another rain-soaked victory at Circuit Zolder in late 2023. In 2024, the German is still chasing his first win of the season, but the pace is there. Without the DRP, Dauenhauer would not be driving the #99 Camaro today.
